It's also a gift…
"If you're happy and you know it. Clap your hands!" We all know how the song goes. As kids we sang this song with smiles on our faces, but now that you are an adult, can you truly still sing this song and mean it?
I'm sure we all have the desire to be happy, but did you know that happiness is an inside job? It has to come from within. My definition of happiness is simply a gift that you give to yourself.
Now don't get me wrong, people and possessions bring us happiness and joy, but sometimes this may only be temporary. Honestly, it took me a very long time to realize this. For many years, I let people take control of my happiness. I fell victim to giving power to others over my emotions. I let the opinions of people define my happiness. Sadly, I was left heartbroken because what I should have been giving myself, I was giving to others instead.
That’s when I made the decision to take my happiness back. I was determined to live a life where my happiness was not defined by how others perceived me. Sis, if this is you, then it's time to own the rights to your happiness!
I must add here that the journey for me sure hasn't always been easy. Yet, I encourage anyone that feels powerless over their own happiness to stand and declare that they will no longer give their happiness to anyone or anything that isn't deserving of it.
Happiness is a choice, and it's yours!
Before I close this blog post, I want to give you a few tips to control your own happiness…
1.) Practice self-love
2.) Eliminate negativity and toxic relationships
3.) Set appropriate boundaries
4.) Appreciate small moments and accomplishments
